Ali Shirazi is an Iranian filmmaker and visual artist whose work moves between classical cinema craft and machine intelligence. From festival short films shot on location to fully AI-generated cyberpunk drama, his practice is built on one belief: technology changes the tools, never the reason we tell stories.
The Journey
Beginnings
Drawing, photography and a fascination with light shaped his earliest years. Long before a camera was in his hands, he was studying how images hold emotion — composing frames in sketchbooks and collecting stills from the films that moved him.
Education
Formal training in film directing gave structure to instinct: screenwriting, blocking, lensing, editing rhythm and the discipline of working with a crew. He learned cinema as a craft of decisions, not effects.
First Works
A run of short films and experimental pieces explored isolation, memory and the quiet distance between people. The Television (2015) distilled these themes into a single room, a man and a glowing screen.
International
The Television travelled to international audiences, including an Official Selection at the Cannes Short Film Corner 2015. Festival rooms and cross-border collaboration widened his sense of what a film can say to a stranger.
Transition
Generative tools arrived as a new camera department. Rather than abandoning the grammar of cinema, he brought it with him — storyboarding, color scripting and directing performance before a single frame is generated.
Now
Neon Rebellion (2026) is the clearest statement of that vision: a cyberpunk drama made entirely with AI under human direction. The ambition ahead is a cinema where independent authorship scales without losing its pulse.
